Prof. Rui Hongxing's Team Achievement was Published in Journal of Fluid Mechanics, an International Top Journal

Recently, the Journal of Fluid Mechanics (JFM), the international top journal of fluid mechanics, published Prof. Rui Hongxing's (School of Mathematics) team achievement, i.e. Superconvergence of a fully conservative finite difference method on non-uniform staggered grids for simulating wormhole propagation with the Darcy_Brinkman_Forchheimer framework (JFM, Vol. 872(2019): 438-471). Prof. Rui Hongxing is the sole corresponding author of the paper, and Li Xiaoli, a Ph.D. graduate, is the first author.

The acid wormhole model is widely used in the development of underground fluid resources such as oil, natural gas and carbon dioxide. The formation of the wormhole must undergo a series of complex physical and chemical reactions, in which reservoir porosity, acid concentration, reservoir pressure, etc. have a direct impact on the acidification process of carbonate reservoirs. The linear mathematical model depicting the shape of the wormhole changes is very complex and it is impossible to get an analytical solution. Therefore, numerical solution becomes especially important. To this end, Professor Rui Hongxing's team, based on the acid wormhole model under the Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer framework, plans the construction of a fully decoupled conserved staggered grid finite difference algorithm via different methods such as mixed element, discontinuous element and finite volume, and identifies its superconvergence on a non-uniform grid. Numerical experiments were carried out to simulate the evolution of porosity and acid concentration, and to demonstrate the acidification process of carbonate reservoirs. The numerical results have a guiding effect on oil and gas collection.



Founded by the University of Cambridge, JFM is recognized as the most prestigious journal in the field of fluid mechanics and ranks No. 1 in the international field of fluid mechanics. It is reported that it claims the first time that Shandong University publishes a research result in a journal as a corresponding author.
